Which ELC program(s) did you attend?

I attended the Intensive English (ELPI) and Monthly English programs.

What made your ELC program special?

The ELC program is special because it allowed me to improve my academic English skills through practical exercises and under the guidance of the best language teachers I have ever met. In addition, the program is very well designed because it allows international students to learn English in a simple and effective way.

What's it like living in Victoria?

The thing that I like most about Victoria is that this city has a lot of nature like the mountains and different lakes. Also, the ocean and the amazing beaches. In addition, Victoria has a perfect climate, a very calm environment and is a magical place to visit.

If you could travel back in time, what part of your ELC experience would you re-visit? Why?

I would like to return to the moments in which I shared with my classmates. The English course allows students to do practical exercises to interact and get to know different cultures.

Do you have any favourite memories of Canadian culture?

Yes, the best experience I had of Canadian culture is when they celebrate Canada Day. On that day, foreigners can appreciate Canadian culture, its symbols, flags and customs, but above all the love that Canadians feel for their country.

How did learning with other students from other cultures change how you see the world?

Learning about other cultures totally changed the way I see the world. I was able to understand and respect the cultural differences between countries like Colombia and Iran or Iraq. Also learn about cooking like Japanese food or about life in France. I think the cultural exchange is the best.

Did studying English with us open any new opportunities for you? What are you doing now?

Studying English definitely changed my life. Upon returning to my country, I had wonderful experiences and at work he opened the doors for me. Today I am the director (General Secretary) of the most important public university in my city. I achieved work achievements because I studied English.

What advice would you give another student who is thinking about taking an ELC program?

My best advice for those who want to study at UVic is to do so. Studying at UVic is an incredible experience that changes your life!
