Gathering Our Medicine Stories
COURSE
Course description
Led by renowned Tłı̨chǫ Dene author and storyteller Richard Van Camp, this course will offer students an exploration of Van Camp’s life’s work reclaiming family and community medicine through storytelling.
Topics will include reviving harvesting techniques, artisan traditions, and recipe legacies as this course considers the role of storytelling in gathering good medicine.
Through a series of lectures, readings, peer-discussions, special guests, students will engage with Indigenous literatures beyond the written word, to explore the power of such stories to heal, inspire, and build relationships.
Students will then be invited to consider their own responsibilities to their personal, familial, and community stories through a variety of independent learning activities. As non-credit registrants, you will join the online lectures of this credit class and have access to the online materials and activities, but will not submit assignments or receive grades.
This course is open to everyone.
