Course description
In this 8 week course, you will learn how to design beautiful gardens and select plants best suited to specific landscapes and climates. This course will include asynchronous online exercises, video demonstrations and class discussion forums in addition to a weekly live Zoom class. You will leave this course with a completed design that is tailored for use in your own garden space.
Key topics in the course include:
- geographic and climatic characteristics of the Pacific Northwest and the role of plants in nature
- native plants of the Pacific Northwest and their uses in garden planning
- selection and identification of plant types
- garden design styles: their history, features and applications
- assessing and amending soil health
- hardscapes, softscapes and how to plan and design your gardens
- presenting your final garden design plan
