It is impossible to live a life without suffering. Yet, we all respond to suffering in different ways; it means something different to different people. In general, we seem to seek to avoid it! In this presentation, we’ll discuss how different philosophers (ranging from 20th century Europe to India in the 5th century BCE) have tried to understand the purpose of suffering and how it might be related to questions of meaning in our lives. What might it mean for us to live without turning away from our suffering or that of others?
