Environmental Writing Workshop: Turning Knowledge into Feeling
COURSE
Course description
Environmental writing has never been more timely. But because it often traffics in stories that are heavy on data and light on humans, the genre doesn’t always lend itself to drama.
In this four-day workshop, environmental journalist and author Arno Kopecky will discuss how to turn complex information into emotionally compelling narrative. Participants will dive into a range of current environmental writing, from advocacy journalism to op-eds and longform creative nonfiction.
Participants should come with a story idea of their own, to be developed and workshopped in class. The core goal of the course will be to craft a sharp, professional pitch for your story and identify a target publication.
