Course description
In this module, learners are introduced to the different types of homelessness and housing first principles. Learners are also introduced to person-centered and trauma-informed support techniques using a decolonized and anti-stigma approach. They are given scenarios they may face while working in the homelessness serving sector in which to apply support techniques. The purpose of this module is to provide employees and volunteers in the homelessness serving sector a broad overview of homelessness and housing first principles as well as to develop proficiency in using person-centered and trauma-informed support.
Learning objectives
After successfully completing this module, you will be able to:
- Define and describe different types of homelessness
- Describe the Housing First Principles
- Identify and apply principles of person-centered care in supporting others
- Explain the fundamentals of trauma and violence informed care
- Describe basic principles of a decolonized approach to supporting others
- Define stigma and describe an anti-stigma approach to homelessness
