Astronomy from Space
Part of:
Peninsula Pursuits
Course description
Space astronomy has the advantage over ground-based observations with the ability to collect data in wavelength ranges that do not penetrate the Earth's atmosphere, as well as providing clear images not affected by the atmosphere. We will review the history of NASA's Great Observatories, such as the Hubble Space Telescope, and compare it to the spectacular recent results from the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST). We will also learn the connection between JWST's program and the work that is performed here in Victoria.
