Course description

Burns Bog is the most southerly raised peat bog on the west coast of North America. It covers about 3000 ha. of land near the mouth of the Fraser River in Delta. Most of the bog is protected as the Burns Bog Ecological Conservancy Area (BBECA), which is off limits to the public. In this class, you will get an insider look at Burns Bog and learn about bog ecology, the most common bog plants, the impacts of fire on the bog, bogs and climate change, and the long-term ecological field work being conducted at Burns Bog for Metro Vancouver.
