Course description

An interdisciplinary exploration of theory and practice in the field of intercultural studies. Focuses on understanding the application of intercultural concepts and theories to effect social change. Topics include cultural identity, diversity and inclusion and the development of intercultural relations.

Learning objectives

  • Understand the concept of social location and be able to identify ways that it shapes people’s life experiences.
  • Understand the ways in which power, privilege, and oppression are interconnected and identify ways in which identities intersect. 
  • Recognize dominant narratives (e.g. those produced by colonialism, racism, sexism) as well as their impact on people.
