Victoria – Campbell River – Quadra Island – Campbell River
Meet in Parking Lot #5 (off Sinclair Rd) at UVic and depart by coach for Campbell River. Upon arrival, we visit the Campbell River museum, then travel by ferry to Cape Mudge (Quadra Island) for a guided tour of the Nuyumbalees Cultural Centre. Lunch included. Return to Campbell River for overnight. (L)
Campbell River – Port McNeil l– Alert Bay – Port Hardy
This morning we drive to Port McNeill and transfer by ferry to Alert Bay. Time for lunch on your own. Guided tour of U’Mista Cultural Centre, including a visit to Namgis Big House and a private performance by the T’sasala Dance Group, followed by a guided tour by Bruce Alfred to visit the totems in the graveyard. We then catch the ferry back to Port McNeill, and continue by coach to Port Hardy for overnight. (B)
Port Hardy – Prince Rupert
Today we are up early to catch the 7:30 am ferry that will take us through the beautiful Inside Passage to Prince Rupert. Buffet breakfast on board. Arrive in Prince Rupert at 10:20 pm and transfer to our hotel for overnight. (B)
Prince Rupert – Kitselas Heritage Centre – Kispiox – Terrace
After breakfast, we depart for Terrace, with a stop at the Kitselas Heritage Centre in Gitselasu. Here we will have a guided tour through the forest to the canyon lookout where four Kitselas Poles stand. Three nights in Terrace. (B)
Terrace – Laxgalts’ap – Terrace
Today we head north-west to visit and enjoy a guided tour of the Nisga’a Museum at Laxgalts’ap in the Nass Valley. Along the way, we’ll make a stop at the Memorial Lava Bed Park to view its interesting geographical features. Group lunch at the Museum. Return to Terrace. (B/L)
Terrace – Kispiox – K’san Village – Kitwanga – Gitanyow – Terrace
As this is a full day, we depart Terrace after an early breakfast and begin with a visit to the Kispiox Poles, followed by a guided tour of K’san Historical Village and Cultural Interpretive Centre. We stop in New Hazelton for lunch and in the afternoon, we visit the villages of Kitwanga and Gitanyow, where family members offer stories of their family poles. (B/L)
Terrace – Prince Rupert
We depart Terrace this morning on our way back to Prince Rupert, with a stop at Port Edward to visit the North Pacific Cannery Historic Site. Lunch on your own at the Mess House Café. This afternoon we have a guided tour of the Museum of Northern BC. Overnight in Prince Rupert. (B)
Prince Rupert – Skidegate – Queen Charlotte City
Today we catch the 10 am ferry to Skidegate, Haida Gwaii, arriving at 5 pm. Transfer to Queen Charlotte City for a three-night stay. (B)
Queen Charlotte City – Skidegate – Queen Charlotte City
This morning we have a guided tour of the Haida Gwaii Museum and Haida Heritage Centre, including the Canoe House and Carving Shed, containing works by Bill Reid and other Haida artists. Lunch on your own at Jag’s Beanstalk. Group dinner this evening at Roberta’s (Keenawii’s Kitchen). (B/D)
Queen Charlotte City – Skedans – Queen Charlotte City
This morning we depart from Queen Charlotte Dock, where we travel by zodiac and/or closed cabin vessel to the abandoned Haida village of Skedans to experience and study the designs and construction of the old totem poles and other artifacts. Lunch is included. (B/L)
Queen Charlotte City – Masset
Depart for Masset this morning, stopping briefly en route In Tlell and Port Clements. Upon arrival, we’ll visit Reg Davidson’s studio and then enjoy a demonstration of cedar bark hats by Marlene Liddle. This evening enjoy an authentic Haida meal and dance performance with Christian White. Overnight in Masset. (B/D)
Masset – Sandspit
We leave Masset this morning, stopping at Rose Spit and Naikoon Provincial Park, where you will have the chance to walk along the unbroken, pristine beach. We then continue to Sandspit for overnight. (B)
Sandspit – Vancouver – Victoria
Transfer to Sandspit Airport this morning for our flight to Victoria, via Vancouver. (B)
