This is the second level of our series of four comprehensive courses focusing on all four basic language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
Classes meet twice weekly for two hours, for two 13-week semesters. Entrance at midpoint in January is possible if your initial level is sufficient. Small classes (maximum 18) enhance individual participation. Classes feature a balance of structural and communicative activities to optimize learning.
This course will focus on all the structures, vocabulary and pronunciation necessary to perform tasks such as:
speak about your interests
use idiomatic expressions with the verb "faire" and "avoir"
use idiomatic impersonal constructions such as “il faut” use “pouvoir” and "vouloir" in a variety of contexts and meanings
talk about past events in the "passé composé"
Mandatory initial level assessment, or
Successful completion of FREN100 if entering in September or of the first term of FREN200 if entering in January.

A textbook Défi 2 (A2): livre de l'élève et cahier d'exercises is mandatory.
Students may enter the program at any level if their initial level is sufficient. A level assessment is necessary to enter the program at a higher level than level one. Please book your assessment by calling 250-721-8630 or by email ar firstname.lastname@example.org.
A full refund will be provided if you withdraw from the course prior to the start date. A refund, less a $50 administrative fee, will be issued if you withdraw during the first two weeks from the start date. No refunds after two weeks. Depending on your method of payment, a refund will be either mailed to you or credited to your credit card.
Credit vs non-credit
Credit refers to degree credit. If you are taking a course or program for credit through UVic Continuing Studies, it means that course or program provides credit towards a degree at UVic or another authorized university. Credit students have to meet certain criteria, such as being accepted to both UVic Continuing Studies and the University of Victoria.
