The History of England in Six Recipes

Course description

You are what you eat! The foods we eat reflect the fixations of the society in which we live. What does our love of sushi say about us? By studying the recipes that were popular over six distinctive eras in England, we can enhance our understanding of what was important to the people who prepared and enjoyed these foods. This lecture series will focus on six different recipes (we won’t be doing any cooking but you will get copies of the recipes!) and consider not only what the recipe itself says of the people of the time, but the vital importance of each one of the ingredients to the status of the diners and their culture. Tangents from the focus topic will include information on cooking, serving, and table manners.
