The Gut Immune System over the Life Span (at Mary Winspear Centre)

Part of: Peninsula Pursuits

Course description

Our digestive tract is one of the most vulnerable sites in our body to infection. So it shouldn’t come as a surprise that the largest and most active tissue in our immune system is localized around our gut. We’re born with an underdeveloped immune system, and immune maturation begins soon after birth. Sadly, the efficiency of our gut immune system deteriorates as we age. This presentation introduces you to the healthy development of gut immunity over the lifespan, as well a brief update on aspects of the dysfunctional gut immune system.
