The Gift of the Nile (at UVic)

COURSE

Course description

The Nile is the longest river in the world, and along its banks lies one of the oldest civilizations on earth. Since the days of Herodotus, travellers have flocked to Egypt to marvel at its tombs, gaze at its temples and stand in awe of its majestic pyramids. In the first session (two hours), we will take a journey up the Nile from Alexandria to Abu Simbel to explore the legacy of Egypt’s ancient history, using maps, photographs and artifacts. In the second session (one hour), we will go to the University Archives to hear a talk by one of the Archivists on the UVic collection, particularly the Egyptology section. We’ll also enjoy a private tour of the photographic display: The Gift of the Nile.
