Pacific Pilotage Authority
Part of:
Peninsula Pursuits
Course description
Every day, foreign vessels ply the coastal waters of British Columbia and the Fraser River. These ships transport on average $800 million of commodities a day. With so many movements how is it ensured these transits happen safely and efficiently? The Pacific Pilotage Authority, a federal Crown corporation, oversees and administers the pilotage of these vessels since 1972 in collaboration with the pilots. The high safety record is the result of well-established programs and training that comes at no cost to the Canadian taxpayer.
