Course description

Mindfulness is everywhere today. It also seems to be everything and nothing. So, what is mindfulness?  How does mindfulness relate to meditation? What is the difference between “being mindful” and having “mindfulness of being”? If there were really such a place as a Mindful Society, would you want to live in it? Are you living in it now? How do you know? This course provides an opportunity to explore the meaning and practice of mindfulness, drawing on perspectives from a range of academic disciplines (psychology, philosophy, religion and politics). Each session will include a combination of practice and theory. Participants will learn skills for “being mindful” in everyday life, but will also interrogate the meaning of living with “mindfulness of being”. Can mindfulness change your life and, if so, how? Graduates of this course will understand the experience, meaning and significance of mindfulness in their own lives and in contemporary society.
