The greatest poems of ancient Greece, Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, are not only foundational to the study of Greek literature, history, and religion, they are of key importance to the history of Greek archaeology as a field of modern research. This session will compare the cultures described in the poems and see how closely (and not) they reflect a world revealed by archaeology.
