Emotional Politics in Canada
COURSE
Course description
That politics is an emotional business is likely unsurprising to anyone paying even casual attention to events such as the presidency of Donald Trump or the resentment-fueled freedom convoy in 2022. Yet, the formal study of politics has traditionally ignored the emotional side of politics. In this lecture, Justin Leifso will look at two seemingly disparate case studies – the fandom of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and opposition to carbon taxes in Alberta – to explain the central place that emotions have in contemporary Canadian politics.
