Course description

This course introduces the history of Armenia from antiquity to modern times. It examines the formation of the Armenian state as an independent entity and the role of the major powers in its rise and fall.

It will cover the development of modern Armenian culture and political life in Armenia and Armenian diasporas, the emergence of the Armenian national movements, the events leading to the genocide, the re-emergence of the Republic of Armenia after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and the current issues confronting the 3000 years old nation.

The course also offers an overview of Armenian art and architecture.
