A memorable Homestay experience was when one of our students, from Korea, was very anxious to learn Canadian idioms like ‘it’s raining cats and dogs’ (example). We laughed and laughed with each one he learned. He was also very anxious to engage in Canadian pastimes. As such, he learned to cook kettle corn (one of our pastimes). He asked if he could teach one of his Japanese classmates to cook kettle corn. They spent so much time popping corn that they ended up falling in love and will be married in 2021. We will be going to their wedding.
