Dear Mom in Victoria

Host: Edele Bonnaig

Edele has been hosting for our program since 2006 and has had close to 100 student placements in her home. With so many students staying with her, Edele is no stranger to visits from her previous students as well as travelling abroad to visit some of her past students, whom she fondly calls her sons and daughters.

This summer, Edele organized and hosted one of her past student’s wedding – her student, Delia, formed a very close bond with Edele during her six month stay back in 2010. Delia could not imagine getting married without her Canadian mom! It was a beautiful affair, held in the garden where flowers provided all the necessary decorations. Friends and family from far and wide were in attendance, and after Edele got to witness their marriage, celebrations ensued, with lots and lots of food.

Edele’s home is always open to her students visiting. In the fall of 2013, Ken, a student she hosted during her very first summer, came to visit with his new wife, Momo, whom he met while studying at the University of Victoria. They had a beautiful evening with Edele and her current students. After Ken returned to Taiwan, he sent Edele the following message:

Dear Mom in Victoria,

We will never forget the wonderful dinner last Thursday. It is so great to see you again.

I don't know how to describe our appreciation to you. Thank you for everything you do for us. You really give me the best memory. Thank you very much, Ms. Edele.

We send the photos with this mail, please keep them, and we will keep the best memory in our mind forever.

Cheers,

your son, Ken
