Anti-oppressive practices in French teaching in BC

COURSE

Course description

Welcome to the French immersion workshop series

This workshop will provide participants with tools for teaching French through an anti-oppressive lens. Via an inquiry-based activity, we will demonstrate the utility of simple concepts drawn from linguistics to drive student engagement and student appreciation for the connection between language education and social justice. Participants will model French linguistic diversity into two lesson plans and use anti-oppressive vocabulary in the context of French language assessment. Teachers will see how to position both themselves and students as creators of Francophone culture and not simply users or consumers of it.

Prerequisites

Participants must be in-service French immersion teachers.
