Business Intelligence and Data Analytics FAQ

First you need to submit your program application via our website. It will then be reviewed and approved by the Senior Program Coordinator. We’ll contact you if additional information is required. Upon approval, you will receive an electronic letter of acceptance and additional registration instructions from the Program Assistant.

From Victoria Airport to UVic

From Vancouver Airport (YVR), downtown Vancouver Bus Depot, or Vancouver (Tsawwassen) Ferry terminal to downtown Victoria

From downtown Victoria using BC Transit to UVic

  • See transit options that will take you to Uvic from downtown Victoria at BC Regional Transit.
  • The fare is $2.50. BE SURE TO BRING EXACT CHANGE.

As a participant of the Business Intelligence and Data Analytics program, you are entitled to a UVic ONECard which will provide you access to numerous services on campus such as the McPherson library and easy payment options in food outlets around campus.

To get a ONECard:

  • you can start the process of getting a ONECard online: https://www.uvic.ca/onecard/get-card/index.php. This may work best for students who are only going to be on-campus on a weekend. The ONECard office is only open on the weekend on Saturdays between 10 am - 2 pm.
  • once your photo has been taken, you will be issued your ONECard. You will be able to pick up your card after approximately 10 minutes.

You will need to bring your own personal laptop or other mobile device and its respective power cable. Unique informatics tool software will need to be loaded onto your device. With the assistance of your instructor, this will happen your first day in class on-campus.

In order to access your online course, you will need the following:

  • Personal laptop and power cable
  • a reliable Internet connection
  • ​URL for the Moodle site, which will be provided
  • MS Word, MS Excel, MS Access, MS PowerPoint or equivalent, for example Open Office – free unlimited use under open source agreements
  • R and RStudio – free unlimited use under open source agreements
  • one of the following supported operating systems
    • Windows Vista
    • Windows 7 or higher
    • Apple OS X 10.5 or higher
  • one of the following supported browsers (latest version)
    • Internet Explorer
    • Mozilla Firefox
    • Safari
    • Google Chrome

Two weeks before each course begins, you will receive an email with information relating to:

  • Accessing the Orientation to Online Learning site
  • Instructions on how to create a UVic NetLink ID
  • Directions to accessing the course site

Help Desk information will also be provided if you experience any difficulties with these three items.

Meeting the residency requirement of the prorgam is essential and will guarantee the best learning experiencefor each student. If unforeseen circumstances do arise, students are encouraged to notify the program staff and instructor immediately to discuss options.

No. All three courses are designed in such a way that the learning in each course feeds into the next and therefore in order to achieve all program outcomes, the entire program must be completed.

No. Given the nature of the curriculum in this specialized program, the richest and most beneficial experience for the students is to complete all three courses programmed here at UVic.
