Dancing With Jane Austen

Course description

Ever thought of dance as an integral element in Jane Austen’s novels? Ever wanted to dance like Miss Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy? Readers in Austen’s time would have known instinctively about the conventions and customs of Regency society. In examining the six novels of Jane Austen, we will learn to appreciate the subtleties inherent in her descriptions of characters and events. In each session, we will explore how dance and etiquette are essential components in advancing the plot. A portion of our sessions will be devoted to learning Regency rules of conduct, as well as some simple Regency dances.
No prior knowledge of the novels or dancing experience required.
