Children's Poetry

Course description

Children love poetry and good poetry plays an important role in the child's acquisition of literacy. Despite its simplicity, children's poetry is challenging to write well, yet children deserve excellent poetry to help them grow and learn. Reading together the best loved poems for children from nursery rhymes to Dr. Seuss to A.A. Milne and Shel Silverstein, we explore those elements that contribute to successful and enduring children's poems. Participants will engage in exercises to work with rhyme, rhythm, form and content and share their work with the class so all benefit from the experience of developing and refining work.
